Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industries Departments, Government of Mizoram H.E. Dr. R. Lalthangliana met the President of FBCCI Mr Shiekh Fazle Fahim today at FBCCI Icon, 60 Motijheel. 

H.E. Dr. R. Lalthangliana stated that Mizoram shares huge borderline with Bangladesh which is about 318 km. He indicated that there is potentiality to develop border trade between Mizoram and Bangladesh. For example, Sajek is a very important place for border hut. H.E. Dr. R. Lalthangliana proposed to go for joint inspection and development of infrastructure for border hut. In addition, some highly prospective products that are found abundantly in Mizoram, such as, stones, bamboo, chili, ginger, horticulture fruits etc. have potential to be imported to Bangladesh. 

In response, Mr. Sheikh Fazle Fahim said, “we can arrange a meeting for Bangladesh stakeholders and find businesses who are interested to import from Mizoram.” In the contrary, Bangladesh’s FMCG that are popular in Mizoram, for example, home appliances can be exported to India. Besides, he proposed joint agro-processing and joint seed development in addition to the above mentioned items with Mizoram so that production could be done from both the countries. If better infrastructure and facilities are in place then it would enhance trade from both sides.

Mr. Fahim also mentioned Bangladesh’s ongoing progress in global value chain and highlighted some of the rising sectors of the country including textiles & apparel, pharmaceuticals, ICT, agro-processing, light engineering, jute, human resources to Middle East etc. He said all these progresses were possible because of the fiscal and non-fiscal support extended by the Government and contribution from the dynamic private sector.
